About this event
As part of the curatorial program of Line Gigs and Fanny Testas “𝔸𝕞𝕚𝕥𝕚é𝕤 𝔸𝕞𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕤 𝔸𝕗𝕗𝕚𝕟𝕚𝕥é𝕤”, the curators wish to invite for the Night Blanche 2026 the following artists: Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens at the Maison Populaire.
After putting her experience as a sex worker and actress at the service of art with radical performances in the 1980s-1990s, the artist, performer and activist Annie Sprinkle developed with her partner Beth Stephens — artist and professor at the University of Santa Cruz — an ecofeminist theory which they call ecosexuality. In 2008, they published together the "Ecosex Manifesto".
Appearing in the early 2000s, ecosexuality is both an ecological and erotic practice, which adopts a critical stance towards anthropocentrism - this vision of the world which places humans at the center of everything. She deconstructs norms of gender, sexuality and nature by mobilizing pleasure, humor and joy as political tools. In this approach, the Earth is no longer a “mother” – a figure traditionally associated with patriarchy – but a lover.
