About this event

I'm squatting. I'm on the ground. I see things from below. Hair, breasts, penis, legs and face construct this dance “from below”. Immersed in this posture, I revisit the memory of the gestures that constitute it. A millennial posture, a posture of waiting, of work, of magic; an obscene posture, sometimes difficult, uncomfortable, which one might believe prevents movement. I can't collapse, I can't jump, my knees are bent, I walk, I jump, I dance. For this solo, I started with a posture taken from the duo Époque, a piece created with Volmir Cordeiro in 2015, based on women's dances from the 20th century. We were then inspired by a Japanese dance that someone had told me about and that I had never seen. A dance for which the dancer was squatting.

This dance, still unknown to me, continued to intrigue me. From this ignorance and the desire to see it one day, I took this posture and put it at the heart of a dance that would be mine, evocative of this rich source of inspiration. By exploring this squatting position, I take a journey through time, from the pre-Columbian Andes, to its most current resurgences. Nightclub and club dances, but also underground, in this very deep space, below the ground, unknown and mysterious. Posture becomes a fertile field of study, a territory, a living archive, an active memory.
